President at Kelani Vihara on birthday

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who turned 66 yesterday (Nov. 18), engaged in religious observances at Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara.

Earlier, he paid homage to the relics at Vidyalankara Pirivena in Kelaniya.


“Let my people and my country prosper and my people have peace of mind,” said President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his birthday yesterday.

Multi-religious observances are taking place island wide to invoke blessings on the president, who also marks the first anniversary of the second term of his office.

An all night Pirith Chanting takes place at President’s House tonight, followed by an alms giving tomorrow.

Pirith chantings, sermons and other religious activities are taking in the next two days at Jaya Srimaha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara, Kalutara and Matara Boo Treee and other Buddhist places of worship.

Hindu, Islamic and Christian religious activities are also taking place to invoke blessings on the president.
