Strike called off.. fares up by 20 %... minimum fare is Rs.9

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association says they have decided to recommence private bus services.
The Chairman of the Association, Gemunu Wijeratne states that this decision was taken following
discussions with the National Transport Commission.

He stated that an agreement had been reached with regard to bus fares. Private bus operators have called off their strike after an agreement was made to increase bus fares by 20 per cent. The minimum fare will now be Rs.9.

Accordingly, Gemunu Wijeratne stated that bus services will return to normal from tomorrow morning.
