Astrologer Sumanadasa resigns from NSB board
The president’s astrologer Sumanadasa Abeygunawardena has resigned from the director board of National Savings Bank.
He reportedly faxed his resignation letter to finance secretary P.B. Jayasundara yesterday (May 18).
In that letter, Mr. Abeygunawardena claimed he had vehemently opposed the NSB’s purchase of The Finance shares.
He said the chairman of the state run bank too, should resign for having breached trust.
Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday ended the share deal when it granted approval to allow the NSB to re-transfer the TFC shares in its entirety to the persons identified by Taprobane Securities Ltd. outside the trading floor of the CSE.
“This approval has been granted under exceptional circumstances for the smooth functioning and the system stability of the payment and settlement cycle of the capital market of Sri Lanka. In terms of Section 28 (1), the SEC has the discretionary power to approve transfers outside the trading procedure of the Colombo Stock Exchange,” said the SEC.
