We’ve no foreign bank accounts - Namal Rajapaksha

MP Namal Rajapaksa, eldest son of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa, says neither he nor any of his brothers are having bank accounts in foreign countries.

He is making comments to BBC Sandeshaya regarding media reports that a court order is to be obtained to freeze a foreign bank account belonging to the son of a former VVIP.

Namal says all their assets have been declared to the elections chief and parliament, and described it as malicious mud-slinging.

However, minister Rajitha Senaratne says top officials of a bank in Dubai have confirmed an account belonging to the son of a former VVIP had more than one billion dollars.

Another son of this VVIP had sought the president’s permission to go to this same country for treatment to a sports injury, and there is talk that he had then changed the account to another country, said Senaratne.

Namal challenges accusers to prove these allegations aimed at insulting his family, charging the government of trying to cover up the wave of crimes in the country by leveling charges against them.
Responding, Senaratne says the charges could be challenged when legal action is taken as per reports of the US institution presently carrying out investigations in that regard.

Meanwhile, Democratic Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says if the present regime fails to prove Rajapaksas’ wrongdoing, it will have to be said publicly that they had done no such things.
