Judgments should be given without malice – High Court Judge Warawewa

High court judge W.T.M.P.B. Warawewa advises fellow judges not to expect any personal gains through their verdicts.

Judges in Sri Lanka should make rulings in accordance with the Buddhist philosophy, he said today (Jan. 10), while passing the death sentence on two convicted criminals.

There should be no malice involved in a court verdict, and it should be delivered at the discretion of the judge, not anyone else’s, he said.

Mr. Warawewa is the only member in the three-judge panel in the ‘white flag’ case, who determined that former Army chief Sarath Fonseka should be acquitted of all charges.
