Nadeesha Hemamali to enter politics


 
Popular actress Nadeesha Hemamali has decided to contest for the upcoming Southern Provincial Council elections from Galle district under the United National Party (UNP) ticket.

According to sources from UNP headquarters -'Sirikotha', she has handed over the relevant application this morning (19) to the General Secretary of the party MP Tissa Attanayake.

She was handed over the party membership by MP Attanayake a short while ago.

Born in Ambalangoda to a family of strong UNP supporters, Nadeesha was educated at the Prajapathi Gothami Balika Vidyalaya.

Speaking a UNP spokesman said that Nadeesha has relations in Hikkaduwa, Rathgama, Balapitiya, Metiwala and Induruwa.

Accordingly, the UNP has decided to offer her a co-oganiser post in either the Ambalangoda or Rathgama electorates.

Nadeesha is a nationally acclaimed actress and her talents have spread to South India and she is also a film producer. Her teledrama prodcution 'Athkanda Linihi' received state awards for the best teledrama.

Earlier, actress Upeksha Swarnamali better known as Paba contested the previous General Elections under the UNP ticket.

Later she crossed over to the government and rumours claimed that she did so after obtaining a large sum of money.
