School girl rape sparks protests in Jaffna

Several protests are being held in Jaffna after a teenager was found raped and murdered in the Pungudutivu region of Jaffna. The girl has been identified as S Vithiya, an 18 year old A/L student of the Pungudutivu Maha Vidyalayam.

The protest demonstrations are one held by the students of the Pungudutivu Maha Vidyalayam.

The body was found on Thursday inside a dilapidated house in Pungudutivu with her hands and legs tied to logs.

Vithiya was last seen going to school on Wednesday but never returned. Her parents had searched for her and filed a missing persons complaint at Kayts police. Meanwhile, speaking to media, police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that three persons have been arrested on this regard.
