Russian lady attacks ‘ Cobra Girl’

It is reported that Nirosha Wimalaratne “the Cobra Girl” has been assaulted again at a club in Colpetty.

The reason for this attack is some conflicts regarding the management of this club.

A Russian lady who is a daughter-in-law of a lady club owner ‘Jina Madame’, who is in remand custody these days, had assaulted her.

Nirosha was offered a managerial post at the club due to her popularity, which caused the conflict.

Her Arabian boy friend who is living together with her had tried to lodge a complaint at Colpetty police and the idea was given up with the influence of the club management.

Arrest warrant against cobra girl

The Fort Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya has issued an arrest warrant against Danthure Nirosha Wimalaratna, aka “Cobra girl” for not appearing in Court today (04).

Nirosha Wimalaratne who was a dancer at a night club in Colpetty, was taken into custody on 28 August 2012 for keeping a cobra in her possession.

Nirosha fought back filing legal action and was successful in regaining her cobra and had returned to the night club with her cobra companion.

Nirosha Wimalaratne alias the “Snake Dancer” who came to prominence through media recently has contributed her performance to a Music video.

She has contributed this performance to a song rendered by the new age singers Harendra and Madava under the title “Naadunana Daesin” (Through unknown eyes). Music for this song has been composed by Kasun Kalhara.

The innovators of this song said that they were looking for a night club dancer for this song since a long time and they selected the “snake dancer” as the most suitable dancer for this song

The video of this song is to be released shortly and the “snake dancer” who contributed her performance has said that she is planning to be a beautician or a television announcer in the future.

Psychiatric treatment for cobra girl

Cobra girl Nirosha Wimalaratne, discharged by Colombo National Hospital where she received treatment for wounds suffered in a knife attack by her Arab boyfriend, has been referred to a psychiatrist.

Also, she has been told to obtain treatment at the CNH’s psychiatric clinic every two days.

Nirosha was admitted to hospital on January 22.

Nothing has been heard about her Arab boyfriend, police said.

Snake girl hospitalised after assault

The cobra girl, Nirosha Wimalaratne alias Dilani, has been admitted to hospital following a knife attack.

She had been in the limelight recently for having reared a cobra as a pet and going to court to claim it after both were arrested at a night club in Kollupitiya.

Following the attack she had been dumped at Wellampitiya last night (Jan. 22), police spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said.

Her condition is said to be not serious.

According to a statement given by her to police, she had gone to the home of a Arab national at Wellampitiya a few days ago.

Truth behind the Cobra woman revealed

During the recent past information regarding the exotic dancer Nirosha Wimalarathne has been published in the media following her involvement in the incident concerning a cobra.

However upon inquiry by our news team many discrepancies were uncovered regarding what was expressed by her and what was discovered by our news team.

Nirosha Wimalarathne first came into media spotlight after the police received an emergency call stating that an exotic dancer was performing in a night club in Colpetty with a cobra.

She was arrested by the Colpetty police on the 28^th of August and her cobra was also confiscated by the police and she was subsequently released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court and the cobra was handed over to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens by the authorities.

Although Nirosha Wimalarathne had stated to the media that her mother was of Indian origin, her birth certificate states that her mother is Sri Lankan.

She had also stated to media that she studied in Sri Lanka till grade 8 and that she then left for India to complete her studies.

However, according to the results released by the department of examinations, she has sat for her O/Level examination at the Danthure examination centre in 2007.

Although she had stated that she had obtained the cobra while meditating at the Dodamwala Dewalaya in Kandy, it has been revealed that she had purchased the cobra from a gypsy for 20 thousand rupees.

Cobra girl reunited with snake

As per the directive of the Colombo Fort Magistrate, Mr. Kanishka Wijeratna made on the 06th, to handover the cobra back to its owner, a worker at the Cleopatra Hotel, the owner took possession took of her snake at the Colombo zoological Gardens yesterday ( 12).

The Colombo Fort Magistrate ordered the release of a cobra to its owner, a nightclub dancer in Kollupitya. On August 27 police arrested the girl with her cobra at the nightclub in Kollupitiya and later charged her under ‘Cruelty to Animals’. Subsequently the cobra had been sent to the Dehiwela Zoo. Although the owner Nirosha Wimalaratne (Dilani) was alleged to have committed an offence under ‘Cruelty to Animals’ by obstructing the natural feeding patterns of the animal, hindering its growth, the Magistrate ordered that the snake be released to her as the charges were not proven and that she had looked after it with affection.

Both Nirosha and the cobra were taken into custody on the 28th of August. Subsequently Nirosha was released on bail an the cobra was sent to the Dehiwela zoological gardens. The snake was released on a surety of Rs 5000. According to the psychiatric report issued by the Forensic Psychiatry Unit of the Mental Hospital, it was said the suspect did not have the symptoms suggestive of a mental disorder during the period of assessment. It further said the suspect did not derive sexual pleasure out of association with snakes. President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsakularatne with Nimal Ranawaka, R.A.P. Ranawaka, Thejan Koralage and Sudarshani Gunaratne appeared for the suspect.

Cobra woman charged with cruelty to animals

The Kollupitiya police today filed a charge sheet against the woman who was arrested on charges of having kept a cobra in a room at a Kollupitiya night club.

In the charge sheet filed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance, police said the suspect Nirosha Wimalaratne alias Dilani had acted to cause unnecessary pain or suffering to a cobra.

Police said she had committed a punishable offence under section 2 (1) (b) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance.

The police said the woman had prevented the cobra from continuing with its natural feeding pattern and thus hindered its growth.

 The charge sheet named ten people, including police officers and officials of the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens, as witnesses.

President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsakularatne with Wasantha Batagoda and Sudarshani Gunaratne appearing for the suspect informed Colombo Fort Magistrate that the defence would file preliminary objections to the charge sheet on the next hearing date.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne reserved judgment for December 6 on the request made for the release of the cobra to the woman.

The Kollupitiya police had arrested the woman on charges of having violated the provisions of Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance and the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animal Ordinance. They seized the cobra, which was in her possession and handed it over to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens.

President’s counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne told Colombo Fort magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne today (Sept. 27) that a fundamental rights petition would be filed in the Supreme Court to claim the cobra.

The girl, Nirosha Wimalaratne alias Dilani, cannot be prosecuted over the fauna and flora protection ordinance or preventoin of cruelty to animals ordinance, said the lawyer, pointing out that she had looked after the cobra well.

The lawyer requested that she be freed, but Kollupitiya police objected, saying charges would be filed against her.

The magistrate ordered police to file the charges before October 11.

According to a medical report submitted to the court, the girl remains in perfect mental health and had not used the cobra in a sexual way.

 

Once outside the courthouse, she said she could not go to sleep without the pet snake.

Story behind Cobra Woman

More information on the  young woman who is reported to have had engaged  a cobra as a dancing partner in  the  Cleopatra Night Club in Kollupitiya been revealed.

She is I.M. Nirosha Wimalaratne alias Dilani,  age 21, born in Hyderabad, Pakistan. Her mother ws a Pakistani national, and father a Sri Lankan, she has told the media, and was handed over to her present ‘ parents’ for upbringing.

Since the father was a Sri Lankan, they had come to the country and had  gone back to Pakistan after a quarrel, leaving her in the care of her  foster parents, R. M. Wimalaratne  and Sriyani Wickremasinghe.

Nirosha had her schooling at an international school in the Danture area,  and had gone to the Katunayake free trade zone in search of employment after her schooling

 As she was with a talent for dancing, she found employment in a night club  there. Subsequently, she was employed at the Cleopatra night Club in Kollupitiya, on invitation from its manager.

There was an entry at the Kollupitiya police station that she was married earlier, according to the OIC  Managala Dehideniya.

However Nirosha maintains that she is not married and that she had a love relationship with the person concerned and lived in his house for a short period.

Meanwhile, she says she cam across the snake on the 01st of august  and that she had not  danced with the snake.

On a court directive, she was examined by psychiatrists who held  that she has not  suffering from mental  illness   

Accordingly, she has released on personal bail  by the court  with a directive to appear before the Courts on the 27th of September.

Cobra woman remanded till 30th

A woman who is alleged to have kept a cobra in a room at a Kollupitiya night club was today ordered to be remanded till tomorrow (30th) under the custody of female prison officers.

In a complaint to the Kollupitiya police, a security officer of the Cleopatra Night Club in Colombo 3 said this woman employee of the night club kept a cobra with her for two days.

He said he was compelled to lodge the complaint because the other women who were inside the room were frightened by the woman with the cobra.

The Kollupitiya police who investigated the matter arrested the woman on charges of having violated the provisions of Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance. They also seized the cobra, which was handed over to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens.

Police told Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne that the suspect was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment as she appeared to be mentally unsound.

Dehiwala Zoological Gardens official Pattige Premasiri told the police that someone had defanged the cobra.

After inspecting the suspect’s health condition, the Magistrate ordered that she be held in remand custody under the protection of female prison officers.
