A doctor serving at the Hemmathagama hospital who is alleged to have taken nude and semi-nude photographs of female patients, has told Police that as he was unable to enjoy sex with his wife, he resorted to fulfilling his sexual desires by masturbating while looking at semi-nude pictures of his female patients. He said that he had then been able to collect his sperm into a tube and with that had impregnated his wife. Now she was pregnant, he asserted. He is alleged to have taken pictures of, and videoed his female patients with his mobile phone and later stored these in his personal computer.
He was arrested on on charges of having taken obscene pictures of underaged school children and having publicized them. These children had been at his ward as patients to receive treatment. Although he had admitted to taking photographs with his camera phone, he had vehemently denied the charge of having publicized them.
He told police that he had handed over his personal computer for repairs and someone at the repairing shop would have downloaded the pictures into a disc and then reproduced them as videos.
A spokesperson of the Child Protection Bureau said that a separate inquiry has been launched into the suspect doctor’s complaint but they weren’t sure as to how valid the complaint was.
However, the suspect has since been remanded following an order by the Mawanella Magistrate N D B Karaliyedda.
It addition to this activity at the hospital ward, the suspect is also alleged to have taken semi-naked photos of female patients at two of his dispensaries at Hemmathagama and at his official residence.
These details have been unearthed by the Child Protection Bureau following a video received by them containing semi-naked pictures of over 15 females including some school children, and from an investigation that has been launched to check the veracity of the satements made by the suspect.

Arrested
The suspect was arrested by a special police unit of the Child Protection Bureau on November 29.
He is said to be 35 years had entered the medical field about 10 years ago and was working at the Hemmathagama hospital for the past five years.
“This video contained pictures of a person in physical contact with breasts of females, after they had been asked to remove their clothes. In the video the person could not be identified -- an arm was visible in the video pictures. However, he had clearly focused the camera on the faces and women’s breasts. “It was then clear that the person who was doing this was the same person engaging in the acts”, the spokesperson for the Child Protection Bureau said.
The video was handed over to the Bureau because several females seen in it were school children dressed in their uniforms.
After the Bureau identified one of the school children, an inquiry was initiated into this sordid episode.
“One of the most difficult tasks for us at the beginning of the inquiry was to identify the person seen in the video. We also needed to identify the other females in the video. Then we knew that from the school uniforms worn by them we would be able to proceed with our investigations.
“We identified one of the victims and she was a student from a school in Kegalle. “On showing the photograph of the victim, we were able to locate the child concerned. By that time she had left school, which prompted us to go to her house. It was then that we were able to bust the doctor’s sinister treatment of his patients”, the Bureau spokesperson explained.
The child upon questioning by the Bureau related her story. “This incident happened around two years ago. I had phlegm, when I was in school and one day one of the teacher’s advised me to seek treatment at the Hemmathagama government hospital and was given a letter to that effect. I was sent there with another school girl. There the doctor at the OPD checked me and advised me to go to the OPD ward. My friend was advised to stay outside. There the doctor advised me to take my blouse off as he wanted to examine me. Though I initially was embarrassed to do so, I removed my blouse, as I thought he was a doctor after all. Then he squeezed my breasts while holding some equipment with his other hand. I was so embarrassed that I did not talk about the incident to anyone. After about two minutes, he advised me to get dressed and then he gave me some medicine. I did not know that he had videoed every action that took place at that time”.
