Later Pitiduwe Siridhamma Thera has changed his name and look. He has changed his name into " Siri Samantha badhdha " and according to thero there was no one in history had this name before. Then He became a controversial character. Recent past he had become unpopular owing to his involvement with women devotees, collection of money for Dhamma activities and having made serious allegations about Buddhist affairs. He had got entangled in court cases having had conflicts with neighbors.

He had quipped that he has elevated to the position of “Sowan Sakrudagamee” position and  also become unpopular by challenging four very prominent Bikkhus in Sri Lanka to come for a debate with him. But he never accepted a challenge.

Mervin Silva to rescue pitiduwa siridhamma thero

There was a tense situation was reported  (Nov. 7) near the temple of Venerable Pituduwe Siri Dhamma Thero in Bellantara owing to the unruly behavior of several Bikkhus and their supporters. Several prominent Monks and their supporters had thronged the Dihiwala Bellantara Siri Sadaham Monastery over the Prelate’s recent peculiar behavior and his challenge to several prominent bikkhus to come for an open debate. Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs, Mervin Silva, upon hearing of the tense situation had also rushed to the scene.

Police protection has been given to the Siri Sandaham Ashram at Bellantota in Boralesgamuwa after this incident.

Police protection has been given to the Siri Sandaham Ashram at Bellantota in Boralesgamuwa, headed by Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma Thera.

The monk, who now calls himself Siri Samanthabadra, recently challenged several other monks for a dhamma discourse.

They include Ven. Dodampahala Rahula, Ven. Bandarawela Amithananda and Ven. Medagoda Abhayatissa Theras.

Yesterday (Nov. 07), a group of monks led by Ven. Abhayatissa Thera visited the Ashram.

Around 40 monks, along with several laity, had entered the premises and challenged its chief.


Minister Mervyn Silva too, was present there.

Later, the SP of Nugegoda deployed a police team to bring the situation under control.
