Shalini Tharaka's first love

Popular actress, model, dance artiste and Sirasa Kumariya - Shalini Tharaka Wijebandara has revealed of her first love.

She has talked of him during an interview with a art newspaper.

Though she had not mentioned his name, Shalini has revealed that he is married now.
However, he still talks to her over the phone, she has revealed.

According to Shalini, the duo had met during a church festival just after the guy had completed his A/Ls. Shalani has just been a grade 10 student at that time.

Noting that she had performed a dance at the event, Shalini recalls that it was her friends who had spotted a cute guy and smiled with him.

'I'm not the the type to take notice of anyone. It's not because of my pride. It's just the way I am. I don't even smile back at strangers. Later, he told me that I stood out because of that factor. He had given his phone number to my friends asking it to be given it to me. At first, we talked to him as a manner of a joke. But after a couple of months, we became good friends.

Later, we let our parents know and he also talked with my mother, Shalini has said.
However, I have never declared that I love him, Shalini has added.

Her first step in the industry was kept in the drama Poojasanaya by Mr.Sherly P. delankawala, and her talents take her further in the field to Isuru bawana, Hansi,Samanalee, Api Api Wage 1 & 2 teledramas which became popular among all her fans. And of course the coming up Ganga Addara n Sanda Sanda wage also being contributed by Shalani’s roles.

Apart from teledramas she also has contributed in the TV commercials Hero Honda, Raino, Janet. Shalani going ahead in her career did not stop there; she also contributed in music videos Prihans Oya dese, mata oya D n S, Wasthuwe shafee ft Delon.

prostitutes have become actresses - Shalani Tharaka

While recently there were reports of actress engaged in prostitution and earning an income, what has happened there is not that actresses have become harlots , but that harlots have become actresses, says popular youth actress Shalani Tharaka.

She was speaking to ‘ Lakbima’ newspaper. ‘Having established their names and in order to foster their trade, they played minor roles in teledramas. When confronted before the law, the story spreads that Tele drama actresses are engaged in the prostitution business’ she said.

Creative artists should ensure that such persons are not engaged in their productions, she said, an that if one day it becomes known that there is such a person acting in the same production with her , she would withdraw from such a venture. Popular Tele star Salani Tharaks’s first film was ‘ Selvam’ and in the yet to be released production ‘ Mayawi’ she plays the role of a complex mentally affected woman.

Maharaja and Sirasa Kumariya

The second Sirasa Kumariya beauty pageant kicked off at the channel’s auditorium in Borupana, Rathmalana last Saturday. Despite a wide advertising campaign, the channel received only 194 applications for the second leg of the beauty contest.

Colombo district MP Rosy Senanayaka, popular cinema and teledrama actress Dulani Anuradha and the first ever Sirasa kumariya  Shalani Tharaka attended Saturday’s orientation programme.

However, these candidates were separated from their parents as the Sirasa team launched into details about the pageant, reports say.

One of the most prominent points emphasized was that there was no room for camera shyness or backwardness, reports add.

The final 50 contestants were expected to stay at hotels sans chaperone while the final 12 had to enter a pact with the Maharaja Company.

According to the pact, all professional appearances and commercial pacts of the final 12 would go through the Maharaja Company for an agreed time period.

During that period, the Maharaja Company would get a share of royalties.

Reports say that if they agreed to the above conditions, the contestants’ parents too, would have to sign a pact. Producers were adamant that no applicant would be allowed to contest without their parents’ agreement to the pact in writing.

While, the orientation programmed was taking place, separated parents were huddled in the balconies and were unable to raise a single query, sources say.

Many of them had left the venue afterwards, quite stunned with these proceedings, sources add.
