Former Member of Parliament and entrepreneur Dr. Tilak Karunaratne has been appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and he is expected to assumed duties yesterday ( December 8 ).
Since the resignation of Indrani Sugathadasa last week as the Chairperson of the SEC, speculation was rife that Dr. Karunaratne would be appointed the new Chairman.
Dr. Karunaratne was a former Kalutara District Parliamentarian and the former Leader/General Secretary of Sihala Urumaya. He is also the Managing Director of chemical importer, Multiform Chemicals.
The SEC also recently advertised for a new Director General with the promotion of the former Director General Malik Cader to the Finance Ministry.
