The Colombo Fort Magistrate today(09) issued notice on Vajira Janaki Nettikumara to appear in Courts on January 13 on charges of having permitted the operation of an up-market gambling centre in a building owned by her.
The
gambling centre 'Salaka Club' racino which is located at Union Place
in Colombo 2 was raided by the police and 10 who were engaged in
gambling were arrested.
The raid was conducted by Slave Island Police and those who were arrested at the raid were released on bail the same day.
After being closed for several days, it was re-opened.
The racino was initially raided by the organized crime investigation unit of the police on Nov. 04.
Nine
staff members including the manager of the place was arrested and a sum
of around Rs. 100,000 used for gambling was seized by police.
At
the present, 23 organized crime investigation unit of the police
officers involved in the initial raid have received immediate transfers.
