11 women.. 2 men jailed for prostitution
Two men and 11 women who were found guilty of running a brothel under the guise of a massage parlour at Sellamuttu Avenue in Kollupitiya were sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment by a Colombo Court today.
The first accused R. Sudath Rohana of Ragama was charged for running and administrating the brothel and ordered to pay a fine of Rs.200,000 in addition to the jail term.
The second accused Lionel Rathnasiri of Padukka was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs.100,000 in addition to the sentence for assisting to operate the brothel.
Eleven women who had stayed in the brothel for prostitution were also sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo Fort Magistrate, Lanka Jayaratne.
The Divisional Anti-Crime Unit of Fort who carried out the raid had informed court that the manager who operated the brothel had charged Rs.3,000 from the decoy.
Giving evidence in connection with the incident, the police officer who acted as the decoy had told that a woman was given to him he had asked whether she was for ‘massage’ or ‘sex’.
The police officer had told court she was given to him for the purpose of ‘sex’.
