Ruwanwalle Sobhitha punished by other inmates for rape

The disrobed monk Ruwanwalle Sobhitha aka Ankokkawala Sunil who has been sentenced to 20 years of hard labour for raping a girl had been given a ‘punishment’ by other prison inmates.

Yesterday (Oct. 06) afternoon, Sunil Shantha, formerly Ruwanwelle Sobhitha, and the uncle of the rape victim, who too, has been sentenced for aiding in the crime, were taken to Welikada Prison.

Both had been transferred from Kuruwita Prison.

Once there, the other inmates had stripped both and ordered them to kneel down.

After mediation by jailors, the two convicts had been taken to their cells.

Ruwanwelle Sobitha Sentenced to 20 Years for Rape

Former monk Ruwanwelle Sobitha alias S. Shantha has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, after he was found guilty of having raped a 28 year old woman in Kegalle.

The Ruwanwella Magistrate sentenced two of his accomplices, who were also found guilty of the charges, to 20 years imprisonment.

The convicts were each fined Rs.20,000 and ordered to pay Rs.200,000 as compensation to the victim. Court directed that in the event they failed to pay the fine, their jail term would be extended by another 18 months while the jail term would be extended by a further two years in case they failed to pay the compensation.

Ruwanwalle Sobhitha faces arrest for cheating people through works of charm

Police are investigating to arrest a Buddhist monk, Ruwanwelle A. Sobhitha , for allegedly misleading people through his works of charms.

According to Ruwanwella Police, he has promised over the phone to give himself up tomorrow (Aug. 07).

He is reportedly staying in the Colombo area at present.

People of Ruwanwella cheated by the monk staged a protest a few days ago and attacked the four storey building he had been occupying.
 
Police have found several weapons from the building.
