300 divorces per day in Sri Lanka

There are approximately 300 divorces per day in Sri Lanka and the increase in rate is the lack of understanding of the other amongst the couples, a survey by the Western Provincial Social Services Dept. has revealed.

Most of the divorces occur within a year of marriage and there are 3890 mothers who are under 18 years of age according to Director Social Services, Western Provincial Council, Ms. Anusha Gokula Fernando.

In order to prevent such situations, various social care programmes have being adopted.

  1. If these numbers are accurate it is not the fault of any state. Clearly, we need more awareness education for those in the A'Level class. For it is they who are setting out foot in the world. They expect much from society without knowing the realities of life. Mothers need to educate themselves first about social life structures and human behaviour. It is pointless attaining paper qualifications without physically knowing about relationships and parenting. Attitudinal changes need to be understood. A wedding does not make a marriage. Parents rush to find "good" partners for their children. This is a crying shame. Please help our young adults lead better quality lives living the Sri Lankan values.
