Live telecasts of parliamentary sessions soon

Arrangements are being made to carry live telecasts of parliamentary sessions very soon, said secretary general of parliament Dhammika Dissanayake.

He said a study was being undertaken, on the advice of speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, about how other countries are carrying live telecasts of their parliamentary sittings.

Mr. Dissanayake said it was yet to be decided whether to start a separate channel, or use an already existent one, for the live telecasts.

The digital cameras already installed in the Chamber could be used for the telecasts, he said.
Also, there is a proposal to install several wide screens to allow the MPs and those in the viewers’ gallery to easily identify the speakers, he added.
