5 rapes take place every day

Five rapes of women on average take place every day in Sri Lanka, according to the findings of a survey.

The survey was conducted by the women and children’s affairs ministry in collaboration with several international women’s groups, said national coordinator of men engage programme to reduce GBV Kapila Rasnayaka.

He said women were increasingly subjected to murder, abuse and domestic violence.
Mr. Rasnayaka added that an island wide project has been initiated for the protection of women.
