Sri Lanka police teams today rescued a government minister's wife and several others who were lost deep in a jungle in the South.
Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa, and a group have gone on a pilgrimage to pay homage to a shrine called Kebiliththa Temple deep in the Yala National Wildlife Park in the Hambantota district and got lost when their vehicle was stuck in the mud.
Reports say that Mrs. Weerawansa and a group had gone on a pilgrimage to the area in three vehicles.
The group who had entered the jungle was lost in the Block 03 area and police teams were deployed from Paanama and Kotiyagala area to search for them.
The Kebiliththa Devalaya, which is located in the deep south region of Sri Lanka, is considered extremely sacred by devotees of God Katharagama.
