Brothel with spy cameras raided
A brothel was raided by Gampaha Police following a tip off yesterday who seized a number of cameras hidden inside the rooms.
The cameras were used to record clandestine sexual encounters inside the rooms and were believed to have been used to blackmail the clients, according to the police.
Five individuals were arrested including three women, the owner and his wife, who was the manager of the brothel, which had been operating under the guise of a massage clinic.
According to the police, the women were recruited as masseurs for a small wage and later offered better pay in return for their service as commercial sex workers. A computer and a large number of video tapes were also seized and the police have initiated investigations to find whether the tapes contain obscene material.
The raid was conducted by Gampaha Headquarters IP, Charitha Jayasundara, under the supervision of SP Vijitha D. Commasaru. Gamapha Police Children and Women Bureau is also inquiring into the incident.
