Pradeep Kariyawasam granted bail
The former Chairman of the NSB, Mr. Pradeep Kariyawasam who was on a corruption charge of illegally and intentionally causing loses to the govt, as a govt. servant in a transaction where shares were purchased from The Finance Co., was released by the Chief Magistrate Colombo, Rushmi Singapuli on two personal bail bonds of Rs 10 million each today ( 28).
Mr. Kariyawasam was directed to refrain from foreign travel and surrender his passport to courts. Charges had been filed against the former NSB chief, and husband of the former chief Justice, Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, on October 25, 2012 by the Bribery and Corruption Commission. However, the Commission informed the Court that it would be amending the Plaint and submitting same.
Accordingly, it was directed that the case be called on the 26th of April and the suspect was noticed to be present on that day. Mr Kariywasam was present in Courts today as per earlier notices issues to that effect. Senior Attorney at Law Mr. Saliya Peiris and Mr. Upul Kuamarapperuma appeared for the former NSB Chief.
