Fuel surcharge imposed on Electricity bills.. 25 - 40 % on households



The Public Utilities Commission has permitted the CEB to add a fuel adjustment charge to the electricity bill.

This was announced by PUC chairman Dr. Jayatissa de Costa at a media briefing in Colombo.

Becoming effective at midnight today (Feb. 15), the surcharge will  be
25 per cent for up to 35 units,
35 pc for 31 to 60 units and
40 pc for 61 units and above for households.

For industries and hotels, the fuel adjustment charge will be 15 pc, and government universities and vocational training institutions will have to pay a 25 pc.

Dr. Costa added that these charges could be increased if fuel prices are raised again.
