ASP caught while accepting bribe
An ASP has been caught red handed while accepting a bribe.
Bribery commission officials arrested N.R. Mendis, as he received Rs. one million to evict the current occupant of a building near the Maharagama Cancer Hospital yesterday (Mar. 09).
The senior policeman attached to the Nugegoda division had solicited the money from a woman, who had come to occupy the building in question.
It had previously been occupied a Buddhist monk, who had been in remand custody over a heroin-related offense. When the Buddhist monk was released on bail, he returned to the building and drove away the woman, who asked the ASP for help.
The suspect is due to be produced before courts today.
